This course will look at the history of the first German Americans in Colonial Pennsylvania as well as the later German immigrants who became the Pennsylvania Dutch. We’ll start with their respective reasons for leaving Europe and transplanting to the Pennsylvanian forest, and further analyze their core beliefs and the political spirit that motivated their fierce commitment to equality and the American Dream.

About the Instructor:

Vanessa Domizlaff is a German American-language instructor, and currently a German teacher at Bloomington High School North. She has taught at IU in many different capacities and continues to enjoy her work with the IU Lifelong Learning community.
