Recently, this fund has supported opportunities like travel for students to attend conferences and explore arts, history, and culture. Many of our students have not had such opportunities in the past, so experiences like these—and indeed so much of what the Honors Program offers—can be life-changing.

The Honors Program at IU South Bend provides many opportunities, challenges, and rewards for outstanding undergraduate students. The program strives to expand students’ horizons and knowledge through extracurricular and academic activities.

Honors students benefit from an in-depth Freshman Honors Seminar, honors sections of general education courses, special interdisciplinary honors courses, and optional senior honors projects. No matter what a student’s goals may be, the Honors Program will work to make their college experience meaningful—one that builds a strong foundation for the rest of their lives.

This fund provides general support for the Honors Program. Most recently, the fund has helped cover travel costs for honors students to attend and present their research and creative projects at the annual Mid-East Honors Association Conference. Students have earned recognition (first and second place awards) for their presentations.

The fund has also supported travel opportunities that expand the intellectual and cultural horizons of our students by taking them beyond our community to experience arts, history, and culture. With support from this fund, students have visited the Museum of Contemporary Art, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, and more in the Chicago area. They’ve seen live theater and musical productions at the Stratford Festival in Ontario. They’ve traveled to New York City and Washington D.C., receiving an “insider’s view” of the nation’s capital through special access to the Library of Congress and the Central Intelligence Agency.

These are only a few examples of the life-changing opportunities that you can create for students by supporting the IU South Bend Honors Program. Please make your gift today!

Your giving matters

As a non-traditional transfer student, I was delighted to be welcomed as a member in the IU South Bend Honors Program. Honors has helped me connect with my campus, my program, and my community. It challenged me to live up to my greatest potential in research, altruism, and leadership. I am thankful for the scholarship awards and acceptance I have found in the Honors Program. I am forever grateful for this unforgettable experience!
