Additional Info

For over three decades, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library has served as a vital and consistent resource for students, faculty, and staff at IU School of Medicine. The library is more than a quiet place to study. It's a place where medical students engage in tactile learning and the scientific method, preparing for a career that will demand they remain lifelong learners.

The library’s first floor houses current journals and circulating volumes, along with computer stations and a reference desk overseen by knowledgeable staff. Library staff members support students by teaching them to use the technology, preserving materials used in carrying out their research, and preparing them to evaluate the quality of source material.

Group study rooms, a 3D printer, a student lounge, and a wellness room are housed on the library’s second floor. Students can request 3D printing models at no charge. The library also offers virtual reality stations on the same level, and students have 24-hour access. Additionally, faculty use the space to teach students how to use point-of-care ultrasound.

The facility’s third floor is home to administrative offices, meeting space, and the Leo J. McCarthy History of Medicine Room, which includes 3,500 volumes on the American Revolution, early American surgery, Renaissance medicine, and European medical science.

Your generous support can ensure that the Lilly Medical Library has the necessary resources to adapt as medical education changes. Your gift also helps IU School of Medicine offer the best and most comprehensive training available.
