Get a spirited email address

Unless you went on to work for IU after graduation, you likely lost access to your IU email address. But did you know that you can get a new IU email address specifically designed for alumni?

Hosted by Google, IU alumni email addresses announce your IU affiliation to the world and informs your network—including potential employers—of your alma mater before you say a word.

Your IU alumni email will be yourusername@alumni.iu.edu. To create an alumni email, you must first create or sign in to your My IU account.

  1. Create a My IU account or sign in to begin. You cannot create an IU alumni email address without first creating a My IU account.
  2. Create your IU alumni email address, then sign into your account to start using your alumni email.

What is the difference between an IU alumni email and a My IU account?

An IU alumni email is an email account hosted by Google that allows you to declare your IU affiliation through your email communications. IU alumni email addresses look like yourusername@alumni.iu.edu.

A My IU account is a separate account with login credentials for myiu.org. A My IU account gives you the best possible experience on the My IU site and offers features you can’t access as a guest. With a My IU account, you can:

  • Save your favorite IU funds and share them with friends
  • Access your gift history, making it easy to find funds you’ve supported in the past
  • Manage your recurring gifts and pledges
  • Save your credit card information for a more convenient transaction
  • Update your profile with contact information changes and other important details
  • Create an IU alumni email address

You cannot create an IU alumni email address without first creating a My IU account.

Core service accounts

IU-centric content, curated experiences, discounts, and a number of core services help members stay connected to IU and one another. Alumni and active members are eligible to receive core services.

You can create all your accounts through Alumni and Member services.

IU Alumni email accounts

You can create your IU Alumni email account through Alumni and Member services. You can then access your account at mail.alumni.iu.edu or through My IU Alumni Resources.

Alumni email addresses look a little different than student addresses. The domain is different: yourusername@alumni.iu.edu instead of yourusername@iu.edu. When you create your account, you may request the same username you had as a student. If you currently have an active IU email address, you can forward your IU email to your new IU Alumni email account.

 IU Alumni email is limited to 5GB storage.

Alumni email is hosted by Google Workspace for education use, which is restricted in some countries including China. To maintain your account, you are required to log in via the URL mail.google.com at least once each year. Find out if Google Workspace is restricted in your country.

Student email addresses can be forwarded to an IU Alumni email address, but forwards expire after one year. All forwards in place before July 1, 2023 will expire on June 30, 2024.

Any questions regarding your IU student account should be directed to University IT Services (UITS) at ithelp@iu.edu or (812) 855-6789. An IU Alumni email account (@alumni.iu.edu) is a separate account from your IU student email account (@iu.edu).

IU Alumni email accounts are only available to those who an existing relationship with IU (current students, graduated alumni, & IUAA Life Members). Former students who did not graduate are unfortunately not eligible for an IU Alumni email account.
