Leadership Bloomington—Monroe County

Time to get involved in your community

Leadership Bloomington–Monroe County (LBMC) builds a stronger community by identifying a diverse cross-section of local, emerging leaders and preparing them for roles in shaping our future. Each year, professionals who are broadly representative of Bloomington and Monroe County prepare for greater involvement in community life. To date, more than 1000 local leaders have graduated from LBMC.

Leadership Education and Development (LEAD)

Since 1984, LBMC has offered a seven-month, in-person program now called Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), which is designed to develop a multiplicity of skills in the community and workplace.

About LBMC

Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County was started in 1984 as a partnership between Indiana University and the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.

LBMC Director

Melissa Nam is the director of Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County and an Alumni Engagement Officer at the Indiana University Alumni Association. As part of the Outreach and Engagement team at the IUAA, Melissa oversees various programming including Lifelong Learning Livestreams and Mini University.

A Bloomington transplant from California, Melissa and her family have called Monroe County home for the past 14 years. She holds a degree from the University of Redlands and her husband, Jason, is Associate Professor of Bands at IU’s Jacobs School of Music.

Melissa is a member of the LBMC 2024 graduating class.
