Make a difference where it matters most

Meeting IU’s unanticipated needs
State funding and tuition cover only a portion of the total cost it takes to deliver IU’s world-class education and life-changing experience. Charitable giving offsets much of the difference, but nearly 99 percent of these gifts are designated for a specific cause. This makes the remaining one percent of philanthropic gifts—flexible funding used at the discretion of IU’s president—particularly vital.
Well House Society gifts support some of the most beloved and essential parts of IU that might otherwise be neglected. The society has paved the way for many important initiatives across our campuses, from establishing cutting-edge programs and restoring state-of-the-art facilities to maintaining historic traditions and multiplying campus treasures.
Life-changing impact that WHS contributions have made possible
IU Innovates
IU Innovates, a university-wide initiative to support student and faculty entrepreneurship via the creation and growth of startup ventures across the state, was founded in 2023.
Groups Scholars Program
IU’s Groups Scholars Program, which increases college attendance among first-generation students by providing academic, financial, and social support, expanded from IU Bloomington to all regional campuses in 2023.
Elinor Ostrom statue
A bronze sculpture of Ostrom, a distinguished professor at IU and the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences, was erected and dedicated in 2020.
Highlights from the Glenn Close Costume Collection
In 2021, the Eskenazi Museum of Art showcased many of Glenn Close's costumes from her iconic movie roles. The actress donated more than 800 pieces from her collection to the IU Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design in 2017.
Arthur R. Metz Bicentennial Grand Carillon
The Metz Carillon, named after Dr. Arthur R. Metz, was relocated to our IU Arboretum and upgraded with four additional bells in 2017. It is one of only 30 grand carillons in the world.
IU Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA)
The creation of this new museum, which features much-needed technological updates and display infrastructure, marries the rich collections of the Glenn Black Laboratory of Archaeology and the Mathers Museum of World Cultures.
