Your passion for helping Indiana University fuels us. Your generosity never fails to humble us. To recognize all that you do for our community, we make membership in a variety of donor societies and circles available to you.

These societies offer a wide range of benefits to their members, including donor-specific communications and invitations to special events.

The 1820 Society: Honoring significant and sustained gifts

When you give at least $2,500 to IU in a calendar year, you will automatically be recognized by the 1820 Society. Membership is granted no matter which area of IU you choose to support or how many gifts you make, as long as your total donations meet the minimum requirements.

  • Partner: $2,500 to $4,999
  • Investor: $5,000 to $9,999
  • Leader: $10,000 and above

The Presidents Circle: Honoring philanthropic leaders

The Presidents Circle honors Indiana University's most generous donors. Members are people who have helped define the very character of IU. You and your household will be given lifetime memberships when your cumulative donations reach $100,000.

Presidents Circle recognition levels

  • Patron: $100,000
  • Associate: $500,000
  • Benefactor: $1,000,000
  • Fellow: $5,000,000
  • Founder: $10,000,000

Presidents Circle membership benefits

  • Personally designed award presented by the presidents of IU and the IU Foundation at the annual Presidents Circle Induction Ceremony
  • Greater communication from IU and access to its leaders
  • Invitations to Presidents Circle events and important IU activities
  • Opportunities to purchase tickets to certain athletic events
  • An invitation to attend the Big Red Bash tailgate party
  • An invitation to attend a football game in the President’s Suite
  • A welcome box containing curated gifts to mark your admittance into the Presidents Circle
  • Invitation to attend an exclusive Presidents Circle member tailgate

Arbutus Society: Honoring planned gifts

When you document a planned gift to IU, we grant you membership in the Arbutus Society. You can join by:

  • Leaving a bequest in your will or living trust
  • Establishing a charitable gift annuity
  • Creating a charitable remainder trust
  • Designating a percentage or specific amount of a life insurance policy or retirement plan assets

Honoring flexible and unrestricted gifts

These societies recognize donors who make unrestricted gifts, enabling university and campus leadership to meet priority needs.

Well House Society

When you support the Well House Society (WHS), your gift gives IU Bloomington leadership the flexible funding to answer our most urgent needs and take advantage of unforeseen opportunities.

Membership requirements depend upon your age.

  • Age 41+: Make a minimum annual gift to IU of $2,000 with at least $1,000 of your gift designated to WHS.
  • Age 40 and under: Make a minimum annual gift to IU of $1,000 with at least $500 of your gift designated to WHS.

Chancellor’s Circle

When you give to the Chancellor’s Circle, your gift will be used to support areas of immediate need on the IU Indianapolis campus. As a member, you’ll receive invitations to special events and regular communications offering an insider’s look at campus developments.
