Strengthening Communities

Built for Indiana.
Creating impact far beyond.

As the state’s flagship university, IU enriches Indiana communities in monumental ways. But the difference we make doesn’t stop there. We strengthen communities across the U.S. and around the world—economically, socially, and culturally.

With your support, our impact will accelerate. We will leverage our global alumni network, proud athletic tradition, and deep commitment to economic and workforce development to enrich lives and communities for years to come.

Priority 3: Strengthening communities at home and beyond

Leading through service. Developing talent. Uniting communities.

Here’s how you can help.

Alumni engagement, volunteerism, and expertise

At more than 806,000 strong, the IU alumni network is a powerful force for good. And through this campaign, we’ll only show up stronger. We’ll mentor more students, develop deeper connections, and share more experiences that inspire and build belonging. Not because we have to. Because we know what a difference we can make when we collectively give back.

Student-athlete and fan experiences

From the national-championship-winning Hoosier football team to the dozens of men’s and women’s sports programs across our regional campuses, IU’s athletic programs are a vital source of community enrichment and pride. Your support will enable us to invest more in the people, programs, and facilities that unite communities and elevate pride—across the state and around the world.

Workforce and community development

Rural development projects. Partnerships with P-12 schools. The IU Launch Accelerator for Business—an academic/industry initiative to build Indiana’s life science ecosystem and workforce. These are just a few of IU’s vital collaborations with businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations. Together, we will enhance these partnerships to drive job growth, strengthen communities, and prepare the leaders of tomorrow.

We are always reaching.

Impact-driven. IU-led.

Whether it’s rural health initiatives or small business partnerships, arts outreach or community-based research, IU works alongside communities in Indiana and beyond to meet real needs with real solutions.

Center for Rural Engagement

By bringing the research, teaching, and service of IU faculty, staff, and students to rural communities in southern Indiana, the Center for Rural Engagement builds innovative partnerships that fundamentally improve lives across the region.

Office of School Partnerships

The Office of School Partnerships connects IU faculty and staff with P-12 educators across the state to address the most pressing needs of students and to support their learning, success, and college and career readiness.

Sports Innovation Institute

Connecting IU Indy’s expertise in technology, sports performance, entrepreneurship, and design with organizations and industry leaders locally and globally, the SII helps develop innovative solutions, products, and services in the sports world.

Environmental Resilience Institute

The Environmental Resilience Institute collaborates with communities and organizations across the state to better prepare Indiana and the Midwest for environmental changes that affect individuals, communities, businesses, and natural systems.

Transforming communities. Changing lives.

The impact of community-building is personal: Business owners expanding their reach. Students finding careers close to home. Families accessing care. Fans gathering in shared pride.

Powering Indiana's workforce

IU Indianapolis partners with local industry to provide students with unique opportunities to gain professional experience early in their educational journeys through co-ops and internships. These experiences prepare students for in-demand careers while helping Indiana employers meet growing workforce demands.

Closing critical gaps

Whether they’re creating partnerships with local school districts or offering accelerated degrees, IU’s regional campuses are working hard to alleviate labor shortages and prepare students for high-demand careers in healthcare and education.

Expanding tech access

Through Binary Heart, student entrepreneurs help close the digital divide by collecting and redistributing technology. They also gain valuable skills in hardware repair, data security, and systems administration.
