Run for the Board of Managers
IU alumni are eligible to serve on the Board of Managers. Nominate yourself or another eager volunteer by November 30 in order to be considered for the next fiscal year’s nominations. The Governance Committee meets in January to select the slate. If selected, candidates will be contacted to accept the nomination by February 15. If you are not selected, you may submit your name with a petition signed by 100 Alumni Association members to the IUAA by February 28.
Meet the Board of Managers

Shontrai Irving
Chair, 2026–2027
BA’97, MA/JD’03
Shontrai is a clinical professor of business law at Purdue University Northwest. He began serving on the Board of Managers in 2018, and he has also held leadership positions in the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club, the Groups Alumni Association, the Maurer School of Law Alumni Board, and the Maurer Black Alumni Advisory Board. IU has recognized Shontrai for his service with the IUAA Volunteer Leadership Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Arts and Sciences, the Distinguished Service Award from the Maurer School of Law, the Dr. Charlie Nelms Alumni Award, the IU Bicentennial Medal, Hudson Holland Service Award, and the Thomas J. Hennessy Alumni Award. In 2022, he received Indiana’s Sagamore of the Wabash.

Mary Susan Buhner
Chair Elect, 2026–2027

Mary Susan has been Fox 59’s parenting and family lifestyle contributor since 2009 and was named Development & Engagement Strategist for the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre in Carmel, Indiana, in 2025. She helped start The Hearing Resource Center, a free clinic for children born deaf or hearing-impaired, for which she received a Leadership Service Award from former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. Mary Susan has served as chairperson of IU Women’s Leadership Colloquium and Women’s Philanthropy Council, and on the board of directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She currently serves on IU’s College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Board, the Dean of Student Affairs’ Parent Advisory Board, and the Greek Life Task Force.

Kyle King
Vice Chair, 2026–2027

Kyle has served in leadership positions with the Evansville, Optometry, and Marching Hundred alumni communities. He was instrumental in leading and successfully executing one of the largest fundraising campaigns of its kind for the Evansville chapter of the IUAA. Kyle received the IUAA Volunteer Leadership Award in 2019. He works as an optometrist at Evansville Eyecare Associates.

Mike Wargo
Treasurer, 2026–2027

Mike is chief operating officer at the Hospice Foundation in South Bend where he oversees strategic and operational aspects of the organization. He has served on the Finance Committee and Executive Council for the IUAA, IU South Bend Board of Advisors, IU South Bend For All Campaign Committee, the IUAA Strategic Directions Task Force, and was president of the IU South Bend Alumni Board. For his leadership in these and other areas, Mike was honored with the IUAA President’s Award in 2001, the IU South Bend Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010, and the Continuing Studies Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999.

Leslie Kidwell
Secretary, 2026-2027

Leslie has been director of development at Vincennes University since 2020. Prior to this position, she worked in fundraising roles at the IU School of Liberal Arts and the American Red Cross and as adjunct faculty with the Kelley School of Business. Leslie was a leader in the IU Indianapolis Alumni Council for over 9 years as both a member at large and ultimately, president. She served as at-large member of the IUAA Executive Council and the Governance Committee for three years. For her outstanding volunteer service, Leslie earned the IUAA President’s Award in 2022. She has been a volunteer in her local community with Dress for Success Indianapolis for 20 years. She and her husband Michael live in Indianapolis.

Yung Nguyen
Immediate Past Chair, 2026–2027

Yung is the medical affairs director for Cook Group Inc. Previously, he was staff anesthesiologist for IU Health. He has served the IU Alumni Association as an at-large member of the Executive Council as well as Manager at Large for the Board of Managers. He is a past president of the School of Medicine Alumni Board, and in 2021, Yung was named Physician Mentor of the Year by the IU School of Medicine.

Graham Pave
Student Representative, 2026-2027
Graham Pave is a senior at Indiana University Bloomington pursuing degrees in Finance and Business Analytics with a minor in Economics. He has served as a General Delegate in Kelley Student Government and contributed to the Alumni Engagement and Professional Development committees. Graham has also held several leadership roles within his business fraternity, Phi Gamma Nu, including Professional Development Manager, Standards Board Member, and President. In addition to volunteering with Special Olympics of Tennessee and working at Preston Taylor Ministries, he previously interned in wealth management with Old National Bank.

John Brown
Manager at Large, 2024–2027

John is a two-time graduate of the IU Bloomington campus. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in history at the College of Arts and Sciences and then earned his law degree at the Maurer School of Law. John has served on the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club Board beginning in 2019 and on the IUAA Executive Council from 2021 to 2024. In October 2024, he joined the Maurer School of Law Alumni Board. As an undergraduate, John was active in the Singing Hoosiers and IU Soul Revue. Professionally, John is a claims specialist with Progressive Insurance in the greater Indianapolis area.

Shishir Deshpande
Manager at Large, 2026–2029

Shishir earned the Master of Laws in 2006 from the McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. He has been chapter president of the Delhi chapter since 2016, past member of the Executive Council from 2020 to 2023, and has served as chair on the inaugural IU McKinney Dean’s Global Advisory Council. He is a practicing attorney and is Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India. He was honored with the Volunteer Leadership Award in 2022.

Jason Gerdom
Manager at Large, 2025–2028
BS’97
Jason is senior support operations coordinator at Harvard Business School. Jason has been a two-term at-large member of the Executive Council and has served on the Assessment and Finance Committees. Additionally, he was president, vice president, and board member of the Boston chapter of the IUAA Board from 2007 to 2021. He is dedicated to scholarship fundraising to help students from the New England area and established the Gerdom Family Scholarship in 2024, and for his outstanding leadership, he was awarded the Volunteer Leadership Award in 2024.

Jeannie Infante
Manager at Large, 2025–2027

Jeannie Infante began serving IU in 1999 with the Center on Philanthropy. She continued with the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and has volunteered with multiple IU Indianapolis committees. In 2013, she joined the IUAA nominating committee, later serving as secretary, manager at large, and chair of the Board of Managers. She currently serves as vice president of advancement for the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Stacie Richter
Manager at Large, 2025–2028

Stacie served two terms as Member at Large on the IUAA Executive Council where she has been an active participant on the Assessment and Belonging Committees. She held critical leadership positions, including president and vice president, of the Twin Cities chapter of the IUAA since 2009. Stacie and her husband are proud former owners of Transit Team, Inc., a company providing transportation services to elderly and disabled persons across the Twin Cities area. After selling the business in 2021, Stacie served as vice president of people and culture at Beacon Mobility after its acquisition of Transit Team.

Cheryl Sullivan
Manager at Large, 2026-2029

Cheryl was policy director for U.S. Senator Evan Bayh for five years. Prior to this role, she served as vice chancellor of external affairs for IU Indianapolis during which time she worked with the IU president and Medical School dean to garner statewide support for funding biomedical research. She retired in 2018 as CEO of the American Academy of Nursing where she led an organization of more than 3,200 Fellows representing nursing’s most accomplished leaders in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia. In addition to her IU degrees, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a certificate for senior executives in state and local government at the Harvard Kennedy School. Cheryl currently serves on the IU School of Nursing Board of Advisors and the IU Foundation Board of Directors. She and her husband Frank live in Indianapolis.

Paul J. Clifford
Chief Alumni Officer
Paul is the 13th chief executive to lead the Indiana University Alumni Association. He leads IU’s global alumni engagement and giving strategy, building lifelong connections across generations, campuses, and geographies through digital-first, people-centered programs. This leadership role drives a culture of generosity, overseeing outreach, and creating experiences that deepen alumni pride, connection, and philanthropy. Prior to joining the IUAA, he served as the CEO of the Penn State Alumni Association and associate vice president for alumni relations from 2016 to 2025. He managed a $13.5 million operating budget and led a team of 55 staff members, 280 affiliate groups, and 3,000 volunteers. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in higher education from Penn State. He and his wife Jenne have three adult children.
